Acorn Aluminium wins major sub-contract on Kier-led Essex enterprise project

Acorn Aluminium has been awarded the contract for windows and curtain walling on Kier’s £15million Enterprise Centre Development at the Horizon 120 business park.

The project for Braintree District Council and designed by architects Stride Treglown, will offer flexible workspaces plus conference and training facilities, set out across a three-story build off the A131.

Acorn Aluminium has been appointed by Kier on a design, manufacture and install basis, to supply 1,500m2 curtain walling in Senior’s SF52 system and SPW600 windows, and SPW501 doors, starting on site in late August.

Paul Stevens, Commercial Director, said: “The Enterprise Centre will offer flexible business space to fast growing companies.

“The glazing element is key to the aesthetic of the build with a defining anodised bronze finish externally and powder coated white internally, across three storeys.

“We’re also supplying a large number of windows and doors in Senior’s proven and highly energy efficient SPW600 and SPW501 systems achieving an overall u-value of 1.3W/m2K.”

The SF52 Curtain Walling System is defined by a consistent slim 52mm sightline, delivering levels of thermal efficiency far beyond current building regulations. It offers an exceptional level of flexibility and is suitable for both ground floor and high-rise applications, with full weather testing to CWCT and EN13830. It has a life expectancy of 40 years or more and is 100% recyclable at end of life.

The Senior SPW600 is a highly versatile 75mm window system, while its also available in the SPW600e enhanced thermal option, which uses additional thermal inserts on top of the latest polyamide thermal breaking technologies used across the range. Accommodating glass units of up to 56mm, this combines to create a highly cost-effective commercial window capable of achieving a BFRC A Rating.

The SPW501 is a high performance, thermally broken polyamide aluminium framing system, designed specifically for high pedestrian uses and applications. It’s available in a range of configurations, including standard pivot and anti-finger trap doors.

“The SF52 is a go to system for commercial applications. It delivers a very strong aesthetic, particularly when combined with a considered finish and striking finish as in this particular project”, Paul added.

“A simple change of colour can define a project. We have partnerships in place to deliver exceptional design flexibility and expertise in manufacture and installation to show it at its best by delivering on finish.”
