I joined the Acorn team in summer 2018. My brief is pretty broad, encompassing everything from business development to personnel and ultimate responsibility for operations, including manufacture and installations.
Before joining the team I worked in various leadership roles including Pilkington NSG, where amongst other things, I led the customer satisfaction programme for the architectural side of the business.
Working at Acorn is great. We have some fantastically committed colleagues and we work with partners who are delivering some stunning projects, it’s a fascinating and incredible rewarding place to work.
Outside work, when I have the time, you’ll probably find me on the golf course. It’s a great place to clear your head and recharge.
As part of the Sales and Estimating Team I oversee the preparation of all tenders, client liaison, and order conversion.
I joined Acorn what seems a very long time ago now, in 1997 having worked in construction industry since leaving college 10 years earlier.
My first role with Acorn was as an Estimator, becoming Senior Estimator in 2002 and then, Commercial Director, in 2018. Put it this way, along the way I’ve probably made ‘cups of tea’ for a lot of people!
What motivates me most, is that focus on quality and service, both of which we recognise need to always be high, in order to ensure that our commercial contractor partners get solutions they can have confidence in founded on the service they deserve.
I’m also extremely proud of the state-of-the-art offices and factory working environment we have created here for the team, and how this is reflected in the products that we supply.
Outside of work, I play bass guitar in a band, and until recently coached martial arts having a Black Belt in Jujitsu!
I joined Acorn in 2019 and since July 2020, I have responsibility for all fabrication operations. Ever since coming on board what’s impressed me is the sustained investment that’s been made from the new offices through to machinery and the factory floor.
We’re very much focussed on the future but as a senior management team draw down on extensive experience in architectural aluminium and manufacturing – for me personally, that’s 25 years in factory management.
What I enjoy the most about working here is the passion that exists within the fabrication team and the pride they have in the product we make – that’s not something that you teach or train, it’s developed organically and is something reflected in what leaves the factory gates.
Outside of work, anything that spending my days in a factory (albeit a very nice one!) takes me into the outdoors is good, so cricket, photography, golf, fishing, take up my downtime.
I joined the Acorn team in October 20, to head up the contracts department with a remit to improve service and delivery to our commercial client base.
The business had recognised that it hadn’t always got it right, or at the very least, we could do things better, and that that had to start with closer working with our customers, redefining the relationship to focus on partnership, increased agility and flexibility.
We’ve made incredible progress. Within only a few months, this has included a complete restructure of our approach and processes, focussing on continuous improvement – and ultimately massively improved service levels.
The willingness of the team to embrace this change, at all levels has made the process, while not without challenge, massively rewarding, putting in foundations for long-term partnerships and growth.
Outside of work I’ focussed on the simple pleasures in life, so golf, and my border terrier.
I have responsibility for the design team, procurement and project planning. The remit is to make sure that everything is translated from the design phase, so we know what’s expected of us, what we need to deliver it, how we’re going to do it and when.
I started my career within the industry as a trainee draughtsman in 2015 and I soon realised I had a love for what I do.
I joined Acorn Aluminium in October 2016 as a draughtsman within the design team. I worked hard, and quickly made my way through the ranks to design manager, and then Pre-Construction Manager in 2020.
It’s a place where hard work and commitment is rewarded and where everyone has a willingness to pull together to overcome any obstacle. That’s something which in my experience is of massive value on architectural aluminium projects.
Outside work, you’ll find me walking in the countryside with my family!
I joined the Acorn team in September 2020 as a Finance Manager and a part of a senior management team. Having previous experience working in various accounts departments I had an opportunity to put my experience, knowledge and skills into practice and improve processes along the way.
A key part of this remit has been to build better relationships with our suppliers. They’re absolutely key to what we do and we’re committed to working in partnership with them, because that way we deliver a better service to our customers and the whole supply chain benefits.
As part of that we’ve also changed how we work as a team to be more efficient and closed-out some gaps in process.
That’s one of the things that I enjoy most about working at Acorn. We have a great working environment, supporting colleagues and willingness to work as a team to achieve a better performance.
Outside work I like hiking, cycling, reading, practising healthy lifestyle and personal development.
