Acorn approved for CAB Closed Loop Recycling Scheme

Acorn Aluminium has been approved as a member of the Council for Aluminium in Building (CAB) Closed Loop Recycling Scheme (CLRS), reinforcing its commitment to responsible material use within the aluminium supply chain.

By ensuring aluminium waste from fabrication and installation is recovered, recycled and reintroduced into the manufacturing process, Acorn is supporting circular economy principles as part of its effort to operate more sustainably and conserve valuable resources.

“At Acorn Aluminium, we are fully committed to reducing our environmental impact, and signing up to the CAB CLRS is a proactive step forward on that path,” said Paul Stevens, Managing Director, Acorn Aluminium.

“Aluminium is apermanent material’ which means it can be reprocessed indefinitely without losing its key properties, so it’s very important to keep it out of landfill. This is especially pertinent at the moment, with war and geopolitical instability impacting supply chains,” he added.

While Acorn already works with Midlands-based aluminium recycling specialist, Alwin, to responsibly manage its aluminium waste, CAB’s CLRS provides a recognised and structured framework for Acorn’s efforts.

Open to all CAB members, the scheme promotes the proper sorting and separation of aluminium scrap into specific wrought alloy groups for increased value compared to scrap containing mixed alloy grades.

Reducing reliance on raw material extraction, closed-loop recycling lowers carbon emissions and supports more sustainable project delivery.

“Our participation in the CAB CLRS means contractors and developers can work with Acorn knowing that environmental responsibility is integral to our own operations and those of our wider supply chain,” added Paul.

“World events at the moment make the case for recycling and the circular economy stronger than ever, so this is the ideal time for us to double-down on our commitment to aluminium waste reuse and help conserve this valuable commodity.”
