Installation underway at Tariff Street

Installation of windows, doors, and curtain walling systems by Acorn Aluminium for United Living’s landmark high-rise residential development on Tariff Street, Manchester, is progressing well, more than 30 weeks on from the start of the programme.

Situated in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, the new build development, known as NQ1, consists of two 10 and 12-storey blocks, providing a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. Private gardens, roof terraces and rooftop amenities also feature in the development, as well as two commercial units, located on the ground floor.

Kawneer’s advanced façade systems, including 500m2 of AA100 curtain walling, are being installed, offering slim sightlines to maximise views across the city. In addition, 2,000m² of AA720 windows, and AA190TB thermally broken door systems offer equally impressive thermal and acoustic efficiency, alongside durability and sleek aesthetics.

The project also features triple-glazed units on roadside elevations to address noise and energy challenges, with double-glazing elsewhere to maintain consistency and cost-effectiveness.

Paul Stevens, Managing Director of Acorn Aluminium, said: “Substantial expertise is required to successfully deliver high-rise residential schemes in urban settings, and we are delighted to contribute our skills and knowledge to the Tariff Street project.

“The Kawneer systems we are installing perform exceptionally well, with a U-value of 1.1 W/m²K, with equally good looks to match.”

After fabricating the products, Acorn is working in partnership with United Living and the wider project team throughout the installation phase to ensure timely delivery. Specific project challenges have included precise coordination for the integration of perforated soffit pressings and louvre systems, along with a capped curtain walling approach for clean, contemporary aesthetics.

Extending Acorn’s successful partnership with United Living, the project follows previous collaborations on Saxton House and Points Cross in Leeds.

“Our work on the Tariff Street development demonstrates and reinforces our capability in high-rise residential schemes,” added Paul. “We’re delighted to collaborate with United Living, once again, to help deliver much-needed housing stock in Manchester,” he concluded.
