Acorn nears completion on Westminster Works project

Acorn Aluminium is nearing completion on the supply and installation of windows and façades at Westminster Works, a 220-apartment Build-to-Rent residential scheme in Digbeth, Birmingham.

In close proximity to the city centre and New Street station, the development of one and two-bedroom flats will incorporate smart technology, as well as sustainability features including MVHR, solar panels, and green roofs. Providing much-needed, quality homes, residents will have access to amenities including a concierge service, gym, and 24/7 security.

Designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects with a focus on operational efficiency and long-term environmental sustainability, products including Senior Architectural Systems’ SF52 curtain walling and SPW600 windows have been installed as part of a 2,700m² package, with a contract value of £1.7m.

The specification comprises 1.25 U-values and 0.4 g-values to maximise energy performance and occupant comfort, while a RAL 7021 finish throughout ensures a consistent, modern aesthetic.

Paul Stevens, Managing Director, Acorn Aluminium, said: “Acorn is very experienced in delivering higher-specification residential glazing for high-rise projects like Westminster Works.

“Stylish, high-performing and future-proof glazing systems are integral to the transformation of this brownfield site, while still retaining its industrial heritage – and that’s exactly what we’ve delivered.”

As specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors, Acorn offers automated precision, rigorous testing, and full compliance with the relevant standards as part of a fully coordinated service.

Working in partnership from the word ‘go’, the aluminium specialist applies almost four decades of industry expertise to ensure a smooth and seamless project delivery, completed on time to the highest standards.

This particularly appealed to Westminster Works’ principal contractor, Torsion Group, which rescued the £50m scheme in 2024, after original developer, The Highstreet Group, went into administration two years earlier.

“The requirements of this project were particularly challenging for Torsion Group, which took on a part-constructed site, so it was essential for them to work with experienced, capable and reliable delivery partners,” added Paul.
